I'm used to the NYT having a distinct NYC bias. However, this clue presumes that the persons in question are light-skinned; this is no longer merely a Big Apple bias, it's an invalid Caucasian bias.

Even granting light skin, the clue is weak. Many of my friends got quite well tanned without getting near the beach: all you need do is go outside. A few went to the beach plenty, but carefully avoided overexposure to UV. "go to the beach" is too weak, at least in my background, to qualify as a valid clue as given.Prunehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00224476641730508311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35115061.post-1961535667098069082015-01-25T18:07:40.108-05:002015-01-25T18:07:40.108-05:00@bananafish - you are correct re: Mila KUNIS, I us...@bananafish - you are correct re: Mila KUNIS, I usually don't miss commenting on yeah babies.rondonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35115061.post-77912911496676157932015-01-25T18:04:14.611-05:002015-01-25T18:04:14.611-05:00Hated ADREP. However, I did have trouble reconciling that varnish ingredient. What is "TUNG?" It's not a word at all, according to my Scrabble dictionary, so its OIL is a mystery as well. And who was Sheriff LOBO? I forget.

Part of the charm of word ladders is that the end word is supposed to have some kind of relationship to the starter, even if it's an opposite.
